About Ratt CreekThe Village of Algonquin, in coordination with the Kane County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), began planning efforts in 2014 to evaluate and identify potential restoration projects to improve water quality. The Ratt Creek Streambank Restoration Project was identified in this planning effort as a potential ecological restoration project. Once planning efforts were completed, the Village was able to apply for and receive a Section 319 Water Quality grant from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency which will fund 60% of the project.

Primary Purpose
The primary purpose of this project is to improve drainage and water quality by stabilizing eroded banks, installing riffles and grade control structures, restoring floodplain function, removing silt build up from the High Hill Dam area which will restore stormwater storage volume, and creating native pollinator habitat through the installation of native prairie.
